Junior running back Mike Mitchell dislocated his left elbow in Stanford’s season opener, and will be sidelined up to six weeks.

Mitchell started Saturday’s game against San Jose State and was touted as one of the team’s top offensive weapons. He gained 58 yards on nine carries in Stanford’s 47-33 victory over the Spartans.

No. 5 Florida, which was without 12 players in its opener because of various rules violations and eligibility questions, will get seven back for Saturday’s game at Kentucky.

Five players were suspended from a 45-21 victory over Houston because they cut classes: receiver Jacquez Green, linebacker Willie Cohens, defensive back Mike Peterson, receiver Jamie Richardson and defensive end Willie Rodgers.

In addition, defensive end Johnie Church completed a one-game suspension stemming from accusations that he assaulted his wife, and defensive back Teako Brown served a similar penalty over claims he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend. Neither was charged.
