South Bay : Council Resists Push to Go on Cable TV

Share

Residents in Palos Verdes Estates are trying to make stars of their City Council members by getting them on cable television, but so far the council will have none of it.

The Peninsula Coalition for Open Government has repeatedly petitioned the council to televise meetings, said Coalition Chairman John Dowsing.

“Having the meetings televised provides people with an easy way to take part in city government,” Dowsing said.

Members of the coalition, which has about 600 supporters, have used their own equipment to tape the meetings, which are played one week later on Channel 33. Dowsing said Cox Communications has agreed to broadcast the meetings for minimum cost on its government access Channel 3.

According to Dowsing, the council has said the broadcast would cost taxpayers too much money. Council members could not be reached for comment.
