Films: Director Paul Mazursky emerged the winner Monday in his feud with Savoy Pictures over the release of “Faithful,” starring Cher, Chazz Palminteri and Ryan O’Neal. All parties decided that his cut and not the producers’ version will be released in theaters next spring. Last month, Mazursky threatened to pull his name off the picture when the film’s stars, producers Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal of Tribeca Productions, and Savoy chose to exercise their contractual right to the final cut, saying they were unhappy with Mazursky’s version. Savoy called the outcome a win-win and plans to promote the picture with a “huge marketing campaign.” Savoy was apparently concerned that the absence of Mazursky’s name on the credits would have tainted the picture and the studio’s future relations with other talent.
