ANGELS ON AIR: As the California Angels move--ever so slowly--toward an unexpected division title, TV has a dilemma it hasn’t faced since the 1986 championship season: how to squeeze more games onto the schedules. . . . Cable’s Prime Sports, locked into airing college football, can’t. But KTLA (Channel 5), which also airs the pennant-chasing Los Angeles Dodgers, might. Says KTLA’s Joe Quasarano: “We may be doing a lot of juggling of schedules here.” For now, of the final 16 regular games, only four will be on TV.

FOND FAREWELL: Former Orange City Manager David F. Dixon (B4) succumbed to cancer so soon after retiring two weeks ago that the city didn’t have time for a party in his honor. So there will be a special tribute to Dixon at 3 p.m. Thursday in the council chambers. . . . Former colleagues will join council members and Dixon’s family for this “Celebration of Life.” Says Councilman Mike Spurgeon: “It will be the retirement party he never had.”

ATTENTION: Pundits are predicting Gen. Colin Powell’s autobiography, “My American Journey,” will serve to launch his run for the presidency. Powell remains undeclared. But his popularity is expected to generate large crowds on his 23-city publicity tour. He’ll sign books at the Fountain Valley Price Club Sept. 26, and Assistant Manager Alex Valasakos anticipates a monster turnout that will rival those for Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf and Oliver North: a line of at least 1,000 snaking all around the store.

PEDAL PATROL: Officers in Anaheim’s community-policing program usually walk their beats as they deal with neighborhood concerns relating to crime, social problems and decay. . . . But no more. Carl Karcher Enterprises, a corporate sponsor of the city’s policing program, recently donated 11 new mountain bikes for officers to use. Says Sgt. Chris Sayers: “They have a lot of ground to cover and this increases their ability to patrol the area.”
