Urohealth Systems Inc., which has been on an acquisition spree, is beefing up its management team.

Officials of the Costa Mesa maker of urological products said Wednesday that Julian Osbon, the chairman and chief executive of Osbon Medical Systems, will become Urohealth’s president and chief operating officer and a director when Urohealth’s recently announced purchase of Atlanta-based Osbon is completed. The 54-year-old Osbon, who will also be in charge of Urohealth’s division of products for impotence, will remain in Atlanta and report to Charles A. Laverty, Urohealth’s chairman and chief executive.

Urohealth also tapped its public accounting firm, Ernst & Young, for a new chief financial officer. James L. Johnson, 47, served as a partner in charge of the accounting firm’s health-care industries practice in Southern California.

In addition, Urohealth named Jeffrey J. Dunnigan, 35, a senior audit manager with Ernst & Young, to the newly created position of corporate controller.

Michael Piraino, 42, an executive vice president who has been serving as chief operating officer and chief financial officer at Urohealth, will oversee the company’s merger and acquisition activities. Urohealth has acquired five companies since Laverty became chief executive officer a year ago.
