Surf and Turf--Hit the sand and join South Coast Audubon and the Surfrider Foundation cleaning Trestles beach south of San Clemente on Saturday at 8 a.m.

The organizations will be part of the statewide Adopt-A-Beach program sponsored by the California Coastal Commission. Nearly three-quarters of the trash collected is some type of plastic product. Cigarette butts and paper account for the remaining garbage collected.

Surfrider and South Coast Audubon volunteers plan to spend four hours working. Afterward, participants are encouraged to get their boards and binoculars for an afternoon of surfing or birding. Volunteers also should take something to eat or drink.
