THE OUTLAWS OF CYBERIA

In contrast to what’s implied in “Apple Corps” (by Matthew Greenberg, Palm Latitudes, July 30), the Valley Apple Computer Club is not the only L.A.-area club for Apple II users. Others include the Tri-City Users Group (TAUG) of Pasadena and the San Gabriel Valley, the Original Apple Corps. of Santa Monica) and the South Bay Apple Computer Club (SBACC) of Torrance).

I disagree that the main Apple II users are “students in districts too cash-strapped to upgrade.” The majority of Apple II users are computer outlaws, Luddites, backwoods hippies, who create our own software and hardware peripherals in our garages and living rooms because no major company would do it for us. We choose not to join the let’s-upgrade-yearly crowd. We loyalists take what we have, make the best of it and consider our Apple IIs like fine wines that get better with age.
