Volvo Stock Rises on Takeover Rumor: AB Volvo shares surged to a 52-week high on rumors that Chrysler Corp. may be interested in buying some or all of the Swedish auto maker. Industry analysts discounted the prospect of such a move. , Chrysler shares slipped 62.5 cents to $56.625 on the New York Stock Exchange; Volvo shares traded on Nasdaq jumped $2 to $25.125. Speculation that Chrysler might seek an overseas partner gained strength in April when some observers suggested that might be one way the No. 3 U.S. auto maker could deflect an unwelcome $22.8-billion takeover offer from dissident shareholder Kirk Kerkorian. Both auto makers declined to comment on the takeover rumors.
