Share

A Thousand Oaks man was arrested Tuesday for apparently having a shipment of marijuana sent to himself via Federal Express, said a Ventura County sheriff’s spokesman.

Thomas Montgomery Wiggins, 25, was arrested about 11 a.m. after he picked up the package from an address in Camarillo, the spokesman said.

The package, containing about 22 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $88,000, was sent from South Africa, officials said. Customs officials detected that there was marijuana in the package at the Federal Express terminal in Memphis, Tenn., and notified the local sheriff’s department of the shipment.

The package was allegedly shipped to an address in the 1600 block of Calle la Cumbre in Camarillo. Deputies on surveillance at the site waited for Wiggins to picked up the package. When Wiggins drove away, deputies pulled him over and arrested him, officials said.

He was booked into Ventura County Jail for transportation of marijuana and possession for sale. His bail is set at $10,000.
