WESTMINSTER : Federal Grant to Help Build Veterans’ Shelter

Shelter for the Homeless, an agency based in the city, has received a federal grant to develop temporary housing for homeless veterans who are trying to find jobs, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced Wednesday.
The funding totals $117,346, or 65% of the cost to buy and refurbish a 12-bed triplex in Fontana, said Jim Miller, executive director of Shelter for the Homeless.
“The shelter is used to stabilize their lives so that they can have a clean and decent place to live so that they can get a job,” Miller said.
Under the program, veterans are allowed to reside in the shelter for up to two years.
In a letter to the agency that was released by Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach), VA Secretary Jesse Brown said the grants “mean that we can put fresh resources on the front lines and give more homeless veterans the help they need.”
