FALL ALBUM ROUNDUP : In Brief

Share

* * * 1/2 Grateful Dead, “Hundred Year Hall,” Grateful Dead Records/Arista. Though recorded on the same tour as the classic “Europe ‘72,” this is an ace addition to the Dead’s official live catalogue. The nearly 2 1/2 hours of music is the band’s most consistently upbeat release--even the 19-minute “Turn on Your Lovelight” blues and the 36-minute “Cryptical Envelopment” free-form keep up a relatively brisk pace. This first release since the death of Jerry Garcia is a fine testament to the Dead’s musical telepathy.

New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
