Original Lockers

Share

The creation and evolution of locking was a collective effort by many dancers in the original Lockers, some of whom were not mentioned in Jeff Spurrier’s Article (“Dancing His Way Into History,” July 23).

One of the three unnamed perfomers who became Jehovah’s Witnesses was the dancer known as Shabadoo, who starred in two motion pictures and directed another. Two others were Greg (Campbell-lock Jr.) Pope and Leo (Flukey-Luke) Williamson III, who appeared in a Japanese TV commercial last year and are still dancing professionally. Also omitted was the name of Slim the Robot. Others who contributed significantly to the dance were Damita Jo Freeman and the performer known as Scooby-Doo.

The photograph in the article pictured a later group, one that Campbell danced with after the breakup of the original Lockers in 1979.
