Ducks Trim Roster, Sacco Among Players Sent Down

The Mighty Ducks trimmed their roster to 30 Monday, sending seven players to their minor league affiliate in Baltimore.

Among them was left wing David Sacco, the player acquired from Toronto last year for Terry Yake, the team’s leading scorer in its first season. Yake has since been released by Toronto but is trying out with Winnipeg.

Also reassigned were forwards John Lilley, Mike Maneluk, Sean Pronger and Jarrod Skalde, defenseman Jason Marshall and goalie Byron Penstock.

The Ducks also acknowledged that 18-year-old center Chad Kilger will make the team and that they will sign him. They have until Oct. 5, the day before the NHL season opens, and the combination of the league’s new rookie salary cap and Kilger’s preseason performance make it a deal both sides say will get done.
