James Nowick, an assistant professor of chemistry at UC Irvine, is a recipient of the 1995 Presidential Faculty Fellow Award, which includes a grant of as much as $500,000 from the National Science Foundation for his work in organic chemistry.

UCI Chancellor Laurel L. Wilkening called Nowick’s contributions “remarkable” and praised his contributions to raising the quality of instruction for UCI students.

The award, given to Nowick for his research on biomolecular structure and the creation of organic compounds, is considered the highest national honor to a junior faculty member by the scientific community, said Frederic Wan, vice chancellor for research and dean of graduate studies at UCI.
