There’s Nothing Pretty About It as the Angels Sink Quickly in West

Share

Another September, another Angels’ season at the morgue, waiting to be tagged. Looking back, I realize and admit that I got conned.

In July, I started believing that this team was different from the others. It looked as if it had some heart. In August, I returned to the ballpark and started spending my money, something I vowed not to do after the strike. After all, I rationalized, this might be the best shot these guys get at the Series. Then Roger Clemens came inside on Garret Anderson and the whole team unraveled like a double-knit suit.

In September, it became apparent that the only question would be whether they could hang on long enough to eliminate themselves in the spotlight of the postseason. The answer should have been obvious.

Searching for something positive to say about this heartless team, this is the best I could come up with: They had a hell of a month.

Who goofed? Didn’t anyone tell the Angels the strike scheduled for mid-August was called off?

Good luck next year, fellas. Don’t be surprised if there are many empty seats in the stadium. Enough is really enough this time.

Before the typical fair-weather Angel fans begin their crybaby scenarios, I with to make one statement to the California Angels. Thank you for one of the most exciting and entertaining summers thus far.

It is really a shame you couldn’t pull it off for 1995, but thanks for the memories.
