A workshop for senior citizens who want to improve their driving skills will be available throughout South County this month.

The cost is $8. Preregistration is required and can be done by visiting or calling the workshop locations.

Classes will held on the following dates and at the following sites:

* Monday and Tuesday at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Oso Viejo Road, in Mission Viejo, from 8 a.m. to noon. (714) 470-3062.

Contract Renewed for Rides to Meal Service

Residents who participate in the city’s daily lunch program for seniors can get door-to-door transportation to the service.

The City Council has renewed a $5,200 contract with the Orange County Transportation Authority to provide daily shuttles.

The contract will provide 4,522 passenger trips a year, picking up residents at 9:30 a.m. and returning them home at noon after their meal.

“The transportation allows them to leave their home and get to a site where they can have a hot, nutritious meal as well as socialize with their own peer group,” said Gail Silva, community services director.

IRVINE

College Offers Classes for Computer Skills

Classes on computer fundamentals for seniors are offered by the Irvine Valley College Emeritus Program through Dec. 15.

“Computer Fundamentals and Applications” will meet on Fridays from noon to 3 p.m., covering basic computer operations including word processing.

The course is intended for seniors with little or no computer experience.

“Spreadsheet and Database” will meet from 2 to 5 p.m. on Thursdays, providing step-by-step instruction on the use of Lotus 1-2-3 and an introduction to the Quicken personal finance program.

Participants are not required to own computers.
