Obituaries : Aube Tzerko; Piano Professor, Head of Department at UCLA

Aube Tzerko, 86, head of the piano department at UCLA, who taught there for more than three decades. Born in Toronto, he studied at that city’s Royal Conservatory and earned a bachelor’s degree in 1927 from Chicago Musical College, where his teacher was Moisseye Boguslawski. Between 1928 and 1932 he was in Berlin where he became a permanent member of Artur Schnabel’s special master class at Berlin’s Hochschule fur Musik. Tzerko performed extensively in Europe, the United States and Canada. He began teaching at UCLA in 1959, and after retiring in 1976, continued to teach there until 1993. Many of his students have become internationally recognized concert artists, including Michael Tilson Thomas, Edith Chen, Misha Dichter and Gabriel Chodos. On Sept. 29 in Los Angeles.
