COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : UCLA : Edwards Awaits Word, Works to Be Ready

Share

Senior linebacker Donnie Edwards won’t know if and when he’ll be allowed to play until Pacific 10 Conference officials complete an investigation into allegations he accepted money from a sports agent.

But Edwards isn’t standing around waiting for a decision. He’s running back and forth through the end zone on the Bruins’ practice field while his teammates work downfield.

Edwards, recovering from a compression fracture of the vertebrae, thinks he’ll be able to play, if allowed to do so, in UCLA’s next game, Oct. 14, against Arizona.

Defensive tackle Travis Kirschke, who sprained an ankle two weeks ago, had progressed enough to be optimistic that he’d also be ready for Arizona. But now, Coach Terry Donahue is not so sure. “He’s leveled off,” Donahue said. “He could be out quite some time.”
