CREDIBLE CREEDENCE?: The last time we heard from former Creedence Clearwater Revival members Doug Clifford and Stu Cook, they were fuming about John Fogerty’s snubbing them when Creedence was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Fogerty left his old bandmates sitting in the audience at the induction dinner while he played Creedence songs with Bruce Springsteen and Robbie Robertson.

Now drummer Clifford and bassist Cook have formed their own group to perform the songs and have hit the road under the name Creedence Clearwater Revisited.

“I don’t think John’s real happy about this, but we are representing the music better than anyone on the planet,” says Clifford, referring to the rarity of Fogerty’s live performances and his reluctance to play many CCR songs.

The new band, which will play just its fifth concert at the Las Vegas Hilton on Oct. 23, also features former Cars guitarist Elliot Easton and multi-instrumentalist Steve Gunner. Filling in for singer Fogerty: John Trisao, whose pop career is limited to a stint fronting the one-hit ‘60s group the People, who, Clifford says, once won a Creedence sound-alike contest.

Bob Fogerty, John’s manager and brother, says that John’s reaction when told about this was, “You’re joking, aren’t you?”
