Community Spirit in Time of Need

Share

I was in a three-car accident that occurred July 17 at Olive Avenue and San Fernando Road, while I was driving my three young children to the Starlight Bowl for children’s theater. Although our station wagon was totaled, it was the kindness of the people who immediately offered assistance that redeemed a very frightening situation.

A gentleman rushed over to help me unload my children, a woman helped me put the parking brake on and carry the 2-year-old. When we had made it safely to a bus stop, a crowd had gathered but the predominant feeling was of concern and helpfulness.

A fireman knelt by my son, comforting him. Police and paramedics were kind, helpful and thoroughly professional. We were distressed at such a sobering shock, but in the midst of the mess, the willingness of the Burbank neighbors to extend a helping hand was truly heartwarming. In an often chaotic city, it’s reassuring to know about the community spirit so evident in Burbank.
