Queen to Bar Fergie From Royal Duties, Paper Says
The Duchess of York may be getting back together with Prince Andrew, but her mother-in-law won’t have her performing royal duties, a newspaper reported Sunday.
“The duchess will be told that her presence is not required with other members of the family at royal events including state occasions, Royal Ascot and garden parties at Buckingham Palace,” the Mail on Sunday reported, referring to such events as the opening of Parliament and the popular June horse races.
Media speculation about a reconciliation between the former Sarah Ferguson and Andrew, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, has increased since a summer vacation in Spain with their children, Princess Beatrice, 7, and Princess Eugenie, 5.
The Mail on Sunday said the duchess wants a reconciliation partly because she is short of money and misses the privileges and perks of royalty.
She stopped performing official royal engagements, reportedly on the queen’s orders, immediately after she separated from Andrew in 1992. Soon afterward, she was photographed topless in the south of France kissing and caressing an American described as her financial adviser.
