COUNTYWIDE : 2 More Join Race for 38th District Seat
Two Democratic candidates have entered the race for a state Assembly seat representing portions of eastern Ventura County.
Jon Lauritzen, a Canoga Park High School teacher, and John Birke, a San Fernando Valley attorney, have joined the race in the Republican-leaning 38th District.

Candidate omission--An article Thursday omitted the name of one of the seven Republican candidates running in the 38th Assembly District. He is Ross Hopkins, a Canoga Park government affairs consultant.
The candidates are vying for a seat now held by Assemblywoman Paula L. Boland (R-Granada Hills), who is stepping down next year because of legislative term limits. Boland’s district stretches from Simi Valley to Granada Hills.
If elected, Lauritzen said his first priority will be to push for increased funding for education and to lower college course fees.
Birke could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
With Lauritzen and Birke in the race, there are now three Democrats competing for the Assembly seat. David Ross, a computer software engineer from Oak Park, joined the race earlier this week.
The race has attracted a growing field of Republican candidates, including Bob Larkin, an insurance agency owner; Steve Frank, a government affairs consultant; Peggy Freeman, former director of a community clinic; Robert Hamlin, a retired sheriff’s deputy, and Scott Wilk, Boland’s chief of staff.
