VENTURA : Controlled Burn to Cover 950 Acres
- Share via
Hoping to eliminate the thicket of underbrush and grass in Sexton Canyon, the Ventura County Fire Protection District will have a massive controlled burn from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., officials said.
The burn should cover a 950-acre area near Victoria Avenue and Foothill Road, and will be monitored by the Ventura Fire Department, the California Department of Forestry and the U.S. Forest Service.
In addition to replicating the natural process of seasonal wildfires, which reduce the amount of brush and grass, the controlled burn will be used to train firefighters.
The burn is dependent on weather conditions, but fire officials predict that there will be no dry east winds that could cancel the burn. In addition, the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District was consulted and said the current weather pattern should lift most of the smoke above populated areas and out to sea.
