Topanga : Community Celebrates Oktoberfest Today

Share

Topanga will hold its first Oktoberfest today to benefit the Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness.

Topanga restaurants and caterers will offer a variety of food, music will be provided by a German oom-pah-pah band and local folk artists, and there will be games and other activities for children. Members of the disaster-preparedness team will distribute pamphlets and answer questions.

The coalition was formed after the 1993 Malibu/Topanga fire to help the community be better prepared for future disasters. The organization is in the process of setting up an emergency-preparedness command center in a trailer donated by a Topanga church, organization officials said.

They said proceeds from the Oktoberfest will go to purchase equipment for the command center and to fund operations.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Topanga Community House, 1440 N. Topanga Canyon Blvd. Admission is $5; children 13 and younger will be admitted free.
