Kalkman Nets Wheelchair Title
IRVINE —
Top-seeded Monique Kalkman won her fourth U.S. Open wheelchair tennis title by defeating third-seeded Nancy Olsen of Daytona Beach, Fla., 6-2, 6-1, Saturday at the Irvine Racquet Club.
Kalkman, of the Netherlands, never lost a set in the tournament.
In the men’s semifinals, Steve Welch defeated fellow Texan Randy Snow, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Welch, the world’s top player, will meet Australia’s David Hall, who beat Jim Black of Oceanside, 6-3, 6-2, in the finals at 1 p.m. today.
