Four-Star Films : ‘Mean Streets’

Share

This is a very personal tour of a very modern hell by Martin Scorsese, who re-creates the rotting, violent heart of Little Italy (from one angle, at least) on some B-movie sound stages. Robert De Niro (as the epochal yahoo Johnny Boy, pictured) and Harvey Keitel (as a crook worried about God) are among the lost souls in this low-budget 1973 masterpiece (KCOP Tuesday at 4:30 a.m.).

Other four-star films airing this week:

On the Waterfront / TMC, Sunday, 12:15 p.m.

Shoot the Piano Player / Bravo, Thursday, 8 p.m., 1 a.m.; Friday, 8 a.m.

The Palm Beach Story / AMC, Friday, 6 a.m.

Raise the Red Lantern / TMC, Friday, 8:15 a.m.; Saturday, 5 a.m.

Sullivan’s Travels / AMC, Friday, 7 and 10 p.m.
