A 34-year-old woman was raped at gunpoint in a Pacific Coast Highway motel early Sunday by a man who entered the room through an unlocked window with an accomplice who also had a gun, police said.

The woman, whose identity was not released, was asleep with a 29-year-old male companion at 1:52 a.m. when the two men came through the window carrying handguns, said Sgt. Les Robinson of the Huntington Beach Police Department.

While one suspect pointed a gun at the man and said, “Don’t be a hero,” the other assaulted the woman while pointing his gun to her head, Robinson said.

Both men then stole some minor personal items from the victims and fled in an unknown direction, Robinson said, and no getaway vehicle was seen.

Police searched the area with a helicopter, but the men remain at large, said Sgt. Janet Perez.

“We had an air unit up, but it was foggy and they weren’t able to get close enough because of the fog,” Perez said.

The suspect who assaulted the woman was described as a black man, 18 or 19 years old and wearing a white T-shirt.

The other suspect was described as a Latino man, 18 or 19 years old and wearing a blue denim, long-sleeved shirt and blue, baggy denim pants.

Both handguns were described as chrome-colored and semiautomatic.

Robinson would not identify the motel where the attack took place.
