Free flu shots will be available at a number of area health clinics in the next two weeks, part of an effort to protect senior citizens during the coming flu season.

Shots for seniors 60 years or older will be available Saturday at three locations.

Kaiser Permanente-Santa Clarita, 27107 Tourney Road, will offer flu shots from 9 a.m. to noon. For more information, call (805) 222-2323.

Appointments are required at the three facilities.

Prudential Health Care Plan of California will sponsor flu clinics Oct. 24, 25 and 26 at the Van Nuys and Northridge offices of Sierra Angeles Health Care Group, said spokeswoman Peggy Frank Shaff.

Although targeted at seniors, Shaff said the shots are available to people of all ages.

She explained that children, seniors and people with existing medical conditions are more susceptible to flu.

“They get the flu, and they get it harder,” she said.

The clinics will take place from 9 a.m. to noon in Van Nuys at 14600 Sherman Way and at 18546 Roscoe Blvd., Suite 300, in Northridge.

To make appointments, contact the Van Nuys clinic at (818) 781-5444 and the Northridge clinic at (818) 341-2273.
