Chicago-based Montgomery Ward & Co. announced it is calling off a proposed deal to acquire 19.6% of Levitz Furniture Inc. for $65 million. Montgomery Ward said it had conducted a detailed study and decided the two companies weren’t a good fit. Levitz closed $1.375 lower at $4.25 on the New York Stock Exchange. Montgomery Ward is privately held.
