In its early days in the 1850s, Anaheim had no churches, but not necessarily due to a lack of faiths.
Most of the city’s settlers were Lutherans who spoke German. No German-speaking Lutheran ministers, however, could be found. In fact, not a single Protestant clergyman was available in 1857 to conduct funeral services for a lawman killed in Orange County.
