NEW CHIEF: Trustees at Pasadena City College have named James Kossler to succeed Jack Scott as Superintendent-President of the two-year institution. Kossler, a top assistant to Scott, served as the college’s assistant superintendent for administrative services for seven years. Kossler, who lives in Eagle Rock, was one of five finalists for the position after a nationwide search.

The board of the college, which caters to students from much of the west San Gabriel Valley, voted 6 to 1 in closed session Wednesday night for his selection.

“All my energy and whatever talent I have will be used to make sure you’re all proud of this decision,” Kossler told the board after they announced the decision.

Scott, who is stepping down to teach at Pepperdine University, has worked closely with Kossler in developing a $100-million master plan for the college. As part of that plan, the college built a new library, parking structures and a skills center.
