Three Ventura County women who attended the recent Non-Governmental Organizations Forum on Women in China will share their experiences and discuss the issues that face women worldwide at a presentation Saturday at Ventura College.

The free event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon in the Ventura College theater, is open to the public. It is sponsored by the Ventura County chapter of the United Nations Assn., the Bahai’s of Ventura County and the Ventura County League of Women Voters.

The panel discussion will be led by Cecilia Fargo, a Ventura woman who represented the local chapter of the United Nations Assn. at the forum in China. Elizabeth Gibson of Oxnard and Diana Goodrow of Oak View will join Fargo on the panel.

“We each had different experiences, so we thought we should share them,” said Fargo, who had also gone to similar U. N. forums in 1975 and 1980. “Our object is to make sure there is some action against human rights violations and violence against women or joining of groups that work for women’s rights.”

Drawing 23,000 representatives of non-governmental organizations, the Non-Governmental Organizations forum was held Aug. 30 to Sept. 9 in Huairou, China, in conjunction with the U.N.’s Fourth World Conference on Women, held in Beijing.

Saturday’s event at Ventura College will also include a skit, classical music and a report on financing the United Nations. UNICEF holiday cards and gifts will also be sold at the event.
