VENTURA : Pay Hike Weighed for Adult School Teachers

Share

The Ventura school board is considering increasing the hourly rate paid to teachers in its adult education program by 3.73%, officials said Tuesday.

About 110 part-time teachers would see their hourly rate boosted from $22.37 an hour to $23.20 if the board approves, said Denise McMillan, assistant principal for adult education classes in the Ventura Unified School District.

Any increase would be retroactive to July 1, she said. The board is expected to give its approval at its Nov. 14 meeting, district officials said.

The proposed pay hike follows a 3.73% salary increase given to the district’s teachers and support staff in August, said Gerald Dannenberg, assistant superintendent of human resources.

A cost-of-living adjustment included in the state’s education budget this year will cover the entire cost of the proposed increase, Dannenberg said. McMillan said most of the hourly teachers work 20 hours a week and will welcome a raise.

“It’s about time,” she said. “They haven’t had a real salary increase in years.”
