San Fernando Valley : City Acts to Expand Anti-Graffiti Effort

Share

The Los Angeles Board of Public Works on Wednesday decided to expand an anti-graffiti program to most of the southwest San Fernando Valley.

Under the program, graffiti is supposed to be removed within 24 hours of its appearance. According to Delphia Jones, director of Operation Clean Sweep, the Reseda project has been successful.

The board’s action broadens the scope of the program from three square miles in Reseda to Los Angeles Councilwoman Laura Chick’s entire district. It also extends funding for the program through June 30, 1996. The pilot project, known as the “Zero Tolerance” program, was started in late April and was scheduled to end Oct. 31.

Chick’s district is roughly bounded by Roscoe Boulevard, Hayvenhurst Avenue, the Ventura Freeway and the city limits. The project has also been extended to part of Councilman Hal Bernson’s district and another pilot project in Mission Hills will be considered for November.
