The Supreme Court cleared the way Wednesday for Imelda Marcos to be declared a winner in May elections and take her seat in the legislature.

The court voted 9 to 6 to dismiss a motion questioning the qualifications of the widow of former dictator Ferdinand E. Marcos to represent her district in the central Philippine province of Leyte.

The decision provided some relief for Imelda Marcos, who was sentenced in 1993 to 24 years in prison for graft. She is free on bail pending an appeal.
