From Associated Press

Rusty LaRue of Wake Forest had a record-setting day, completing 55 of 78 passes for 478 yards, but the Demon Deacons were not able to overcome a 35-0 deficit and lost to Duke, 42-26, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game Saturday at Durham, N.C.

LaRue had 41 completions and four touchdown passes in the second half, breaking major college completion records of 48 in a game and 32 in a half, both set by Houston’s David Klingler against Southern Methodist in 1990. The attempts mark is 79 by Texas Christian’s Matt Vogler against Houston in 1990.

An interception by Duke (3-6, 1-5) slowed Wake Forest (1-8, 0-6) after it had closed to 35-20 midway through the fourth quarter.
