As far as another run for the Rose Bowl goes, these Ducks are nearly dead.

Jake Plummer engineered two touchdown drives in the final five minutes Saturday as Arizona State came from behind to upset 10th-ranked Oregon, 35-24.

The Ducks insisted they weren’t looking past the Sun Devils toward next week’s game at Washington, but Oregon was in trouble from the start.

It was a great homecoming for Arizona State Coach Bruce Snyder, who graduated from Oregon and was an assistant coach for the Ducks.

“Defending champions, on the road, it was terrific,” Snyder said. “They’re all so big when you’re struggling and you’re building. But it’s huge.”

The lead changed hands four times in the second half, with the Sun Devils going ahead for good, 28-24, when tight end Steve Bush made a diving, fingertip catch of a three-yard touchdown pass from Plummer on fourth and one with 4:12 left.

“It was all in slow motion,” Bush said. “It was just floating up there and I went out and got it. It was the greatest feeling I’ve ever had.”

Snyder said there was no question the Sun Devils would go for the touchdown rather than kick a game-tying field goal.

“I think the decision was what to call, not whether I was going to call something,” he said.

Oregon, 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the Pacific 10, couldn’t move the ball on the next possession and the Sun Devils (4-4, 2-3) went 49 yards in six plays. Plummer’s 19-yard scramble set up Michael Martin’s six-yard touchdown run.

“It seemed like they were stunned a little bit,” Bush said. “I don’t think they came in taking us too highly.”

Martin also had a four-yard touchdown run in the second quarter as the Sun Devils took a 14-3 lead.

Oregon’s Tony Graziani figured prominently in two touchdowns, one for each team, in the second half. With his team leading, 17-14, Graziani brought his left arm back to pass, and Arizona State defensive end Mike Langridge grabbed the ball and ran 32 yards for a touchdown.

The Oregon quarterback came back to give the Ducks their last lead at 24-21 on a 33-yard scramble up the middle with 5:41 to play.

Plummer completed 16 of 23 passes for 232 yards and two touchdowns. Graziani completed 27 of 55 for 340 yards and one score.
