‘A Home of Our Own’

Kathy Bates (pictured) brings a redeeming tart presence to this warm and sentimental 1993 film. She plays a dirt-poor but indomitable mother of six who leaves Los Angeles in 1962 with her brood to find a roof to put over their heads in a tiny Idaho town. Edward Furlong shines as her eldest, a 15-year-old beginning to challenge his mother’s iron rule. (Showtime Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.).
