Venice Boardwalk
Is Venice Beach on its way to the odd distinction of being the only burg in this otherwise democratic land where one can win a vote but lose an election?
In your brief article on resurfacing the Venice Boardwalk (Oct. 19), it was noted that participants at public workshops had voted by a clear majority for the brick alternative proposed by the design consultant--but that the consultant might not honor the vote.
This was the second time consultants indicated a preference for brick--an attractive, durable and cost-effective material--but still we experience this willful resistance from the consultant to abide by the results of a voting process he established.
It is little wonder the public hesitates to participate in elections and public forums when consultants and public officials feel free to interpret the results any way they like.
