VENTURA : Day-Care Center to Move, Ending Dispute

A group of parents, homeowners and school officials in Ventura’s Pierpont neighborhood has resolved a dispute over the location of a day-care facility, officials said Friday.

The committee agreed that the building would be moved from the southwest portion of Pierpont School to a spot about 100 yards east, said Joseph Richards, assistant superintendent of business for the Ventura Unified School District.

In the new location next to the kindergarten building, it would not block ocean views for nearby homeowners, Richards said. The decision also ensures that the portable building will stay on the Pierpont grounds, where it is used by about 60 students for day care before and after school, he said.

Some of the school’s parents were concerned that district administrators would remove the day-care facility after homeowners complained about obstructed views, Richards said.

A committee of concerned parents, homeowners and district leaders met several times during the last month to work out an agreement, he said.

“We worked together collaboratively,” he said. “It was a good process.”
