Political Pressure Gets LAUSD Response

Share

* Regarding “School Loan Administrator on Temporary Assignment Leads Campus Transformation,” Oct. 25:

It is lucky for Sun Valley Middle School that the temporary principal, John Liechty, has influence with Sid Thompson, the superintendent of schools. One phone call and they got their fence. This response is markedly different for those of us who must go through regular channels to get windows, computers, air-conditioning and window blinds repaired. Instead of one call, it sometimes takes six or seven to get a worker who will appear in six to eight months . . . maybe. It is not the fault of the repair people, since the computer section has only 11 people to service the entire district.

It is a sad comment on the efficiency of the Los Angeles Unified School District when the superintendent of schools jumps to give a school what it needs in response to political pressure while the rest of us wait for the archaic system to respond. Maybe an organization that cannot take care of the basic needs of its schools, students and teachers deserves to be broken up.
