SANTA ANA — A Santa Ana man was critically hurt when he stepped into traffic at a busy local intersection Saturday night and was hit by a car, police said Sunday.
Efren Gonzalez, 21, was in very critical condition on life support Sunday at UCI Medical Center in Orange, Sgt. Dick Faust of the Santa Ana Police Department said.
Gonzalez was not in a crosswalk at 9 p.m. when he stepped off the center median into the fast lane of oncoming southbound traffic in the 500 block of South Fairview Street, at Willits Street, Faust said.
The driver who hit Gonzalez, a 21-year-old man from Santa Ana, had a green light, Faust said. Blanco was not cited and was released pending an investigation of the incident, Faust said.
