Share

An Oxnard man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of burglary after police found him inside a business on Statham Parkway.

Police used Mace to subdue Anthony Graham, 32, who fought with officers at the scene. He was taken first to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment, then to the County Jail where he remained Sunday night in lieu of $10,000 bail.

About 9:40 a.m., Oxnard police responded to a burglar alarm at Casual Living World Wide. As they entered through the front door, police said, they found a man inside the building. The intruder reportedly charged officers in an attempt to break past them and escape.

Graham fought with the officers for about five minutes, police said. One officer suffered minor injuries to her arms, face and right knee.

After Graham was placed inside a patrol car, he began kicking the rear side window and damaged the door, police said. He was then placed in a second car, under additional restraints.

Police said Graham gained access to the building through the roof. Once inside, he allegedly broke open a candy machine, took the money, then opened a combination safe and stole about $1,000. Police recovered $1,200 following the arrest.
