Knight-Ridder Unit to Cut Staff: Miami-based Knight-Ridder Inc. said it will fire 125 people, or 10% of the work force, at its New York-based Knight-Ridder Financial unit, which provides financial news and data. The cuts are part of a restructuring at the unit to improve profitability, Knight-Ridder said. The restructuring will organize the unit along business lines rather than by geography. Pat O’Grady, global sales manager of Knight-Ridder Financial, said the cuts include sales and marketing, product development and finance positions. Few news employees will lose their jobs, she said. Knight-Ridder Financial provides real-time news and data to more than 44,000 users.
