Exchange Students Need Host Families

Share

A national exchange program is looking for host families in Ventura County to house students from South America and Eastern Europe for the spring semester.

About a dozen students from Brazil, Bolivia, Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador and the Czech Republic will need homes starting in mid-January, said William Frantz, Ventura County coordinator for the Open Door Student Exchange program.

All the students, 16 to 18 years old, have good English skills, Frantz said. They come with their own spending money and have medical insurance, he said.

Host families agree to provide room and board during the student’s stay, which typically lasts three to five months, Frantz said. The student exchange program has operated nationally since 1961, he said.

“This shows foreign students the family environment that we have in the United States,” he said.

There is no deadline for applying as a host, but Frantz said early inquiries are preferred. For more information, call Frantz at 484-1746.
