Beau Morgan nearly made history in front of about 50,000 Saturday. His audience will be significantly larger when he enters the NCAA record book next weekend.

Morgan moved within one yard of becoming the eighth NCAA Division I player to rush and pass for 1,000 yards in a single season as Air Force claimed its 10th Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy with a 38-20 victory over Army.

Morgan rushed for 146 yards and now has 1,039 on the season. His 155 yards passing put him at 999 heading into next Saturday’s showdown with Notre Dame.

“Maybe this is just setting it up for next week,” said Morgan, who was replaced by backup Tommy Brown with four minutes left.

Air Force improved to 7-3, Army dropped to 3-5-1.
