No. 21 Virginia Tech clinched at least a share of the Big East Conference title with a 38-16 rout of Temple on Saturday at RFK Stadium in Washington.

Virginia Tech’s defense, which came into the game ranked No. 1 in the nation against the run, scored two second-quarter touchdowns within 48 seconds as the Hokies, 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Big East, won their eighth in a row.

Miami or Syracuse, which meet Nov. 25, can tie for the conference title even though the Hokies beat both. Virginia Tech’s only Big East loss was to Boston College in its season opener.
