Gary L. Clark, a Ventura resident and former head printer for the Ventura County superintendent of schools office, died Wednesday. He was 47.

Born Jan. 28, 1948, in Conway, Ark., Clark moved to Ventura County in 1953. For 27 years, he worked with the superintendent’s office, much of that time as the head printer, said son-in-law Jerry Lashbrook of Ventura.

When not at work, he loved spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing.

Clark retired several years ago, prompted by complications arising from diabetes, Lashbrook said. Although he lost a leg as a result of the disease, he continued to enjoy spending time with his grandchildren.

“He loved anything to do with them,” Lashbrook said. “The way I remember him is happy and cheerful and full of life.”

Survivors include daughters Carol Lashbrook and Anna Harwood of Ventura; son Gary Clark of Ventura; father Cloy Berry of Arkansas; mother Lois Clark, sister Karen Denton, brother Toby Clark and aunt Exie Davison, all of Ventura; aunt Deanna Smotherman of Porterville, and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home in Ventura.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assn.’s Ventura County chapter, 3460 Wilshire Blvd., Suite 900, Los Angeles 90010-2229.
