Valleywide : Clouds and Drizzle Possible Late Today
A weak storm system that has been sitting 300 miles off the Southern California coast in recent days is set to move onshore and possibly bring light rain to the San Fernando Valley late today or early Tuesday.
“It shouldn’t last long, probably a few hours,” said Greg Martin, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. “We’re not looking for an all-day rain or a heavy rain out of this.”
The rain could miss the Valley entirely, although it will at least bring clouds, Martin said. A similar system last week brought a few showers into the San Diego area.
“It’s just a brief interruption in the basic pattern we’ve been experiencing,” Martin said. Warm weather and sunny skies should return on Wednesday, with gradually increasing temperatures. High temperatures will be back in the 80s by the end of the week.
The storm system is being pulled into the area by a ridge of high-pressure air. But when a high-pressure system hovers over the Valley, it blocks out cooler, moist ocean air and allows temperatures to rise. Thus, temperatures in the Valley should climb after the storm system has passed.
For today, high temperatures across the Valley will be in the upper 70s to low 80s.
