Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials have beefed up security at Santa Monica Superior Court in anticipation of today’s pretrial hearing in wrongful-death lawsuits filed against O.J. Simpson.

Additional sheriff’s personnel will staff the courthouse at the 3 p.m. hearing, and contingency plans have been prepared for future hearings.

“We’re trying to anticipate the best we can,” said Sgt. Terry Black. “Actually, we’re expecting more media than anyone else.”
